The debut release for Atrophic Society, home to label founder Vohkinne, is the culmination of years of experimentation with different ideas and aliases. Slithering and raking across heavy groundswells, centering around a whisper and a groan, chanting through the thud of drums and ritualistic rhythms, “Battery” introduces us to Vohkinne’s vision. Different from it’s origin, breeding an atmosphere of deliberate anxiety without fear or compromise, the veteran Ben Sims crafts a clenched fist, unrelenting in purpose. Dark and urgent, both interpretations ring clear through the fog.
